MFTransparency Gets the Message Out to 80,000 at Roskilde Musical Festival
ROSKILDE, Denmark – Chuck Waterfield, founder of Microfinance Transparency, touted a temporary tattoo reading “Emancipate Your Mind” in an effort to gain support for MFT when he spoke at Roskilde Music Festival in the beginning of July. The 80,000 concertgoers that gathered in Roskilde to appreciate the musical talents of Coldplay and Kanye West (among many others) also went home with a deeper understanding of the importance of social business.
Roskilde, a non-profit annual concert, donates all of its proceeds to charity. With the help of the community-building website WeCollaborate.org, the festival brought Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Muhammad Yunus to tell the crowd about the work that is being done to alleviate poverty. Waterfield addressed the crowd briefly prior to Yunus’s speech, and MFT was also invited to many of the presentations and press conferences for the event because of the work its advancements in promoting responsible business practices.
“All of us can be inspired by the powerful combination of music and ideas,” Waterfield encouraged the crowd when introducing Yunus. “Every one of us has the opportunity to make a positive difference in the world we live in.”
