No Place Like Home

by Chuck Waterfield

I find myself at home this weekend – Lancaster, PA.  This is the first time I’ve been home in three weeks, and I’ll be leaving Monday morning for another two weeks.  My latest trip took me completely around the globe – US to London to Nairobi (for the Microcredit Summit).  From Nairobi I flew to Dubai and Delhi, to launch the India Pricing Transparency Initiative.   I was scheduled to fly back via Frankfurt, but the volcano changed those plans.  So instead I flew from Delhi to Bangkok to Tokyo to NY to DC.

Now tomorrow I fly to Ecuador and spend the week launching our transparent pricing initiative there, and then the following week I continue on to Bolivia.

That’s a lot of travel.  Much more than I care to do.  But the work we are doing is both important and timely.  You can see this in the industry discussions that are taking place.  You can see this in the frequent news articles on the issue of transparent pricing for micro-loans, such as the New York Times article and the article in India about prices being available at the click of a button.  And you can see it in the increasing number of countries where MFTransparency is facilitating transparent pricing.  We will be working in over 20 countries over the course of the next year.

That means the travel will not subside for a while.  That means my time at home will likely be more of a quick weekend stopover than a full week.  But that also means the microfinance industry is making a very important transition to transparent pricing, and MFTransparency has been asked to lead that process around the globe.
