MFTransparency, AMOMIF to launch Transparent Pricing Initiative in Mozambique, Microfinance Focus, August 16, 2011:

Microfinance Transparency (MFTransparency) and the Mozambican Association of Microfinance Operators (AMOMIF) will co-host a workshop in Maputo, Mozambique on August 23, 2011 to launch the Transparent Pricing Initiative in Mozambique. Mozambique will be the eighth country in the MasterCard Foundation-funded enabling APR & EIR Program (Africa to Price Responsibly & Educate on Interest Rates).

During the event MFTransparency will collect and publish pricing data for microfinance products offered in Mozambique and will facilitate discussion on issues related to pricing transparency as well as develop and disseminate financial education materials for microfinance clients. APR &EIR Program is raising awareness of transparent pricing issues in Malawi, Uganda, Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia, South Africa and Mozambique.

Launched in August 2010, Malawi was the first country of the enabling APR & EIR Program to begin the Transparent Pricing Initiative. MFTransparency has since published microloan pricing data for Malawi and Uganda, with data for Rwanda, Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia forthcoming. The Mozambican Association of MicroFinance Operators (AMOMIF), in operation since 2007, has been one of the key drivers of the development of the Mozambican microfinance industry.
