MFTransparency reports on microloan pricing India

MFTransparency reports on microloan pricing India MicroFinance Transparency has published microloan product pricing data for the Indian microfinance market on its website. The data submitted by 82 Indian microfinance institutions account for approximately 80% of the estimated total Indian market. One of the aims of this data launch is to engage all stakeholders in industry-wide discussion.”It is our hope that this data will serve as a new foundation of information on which the microfinance industry can build transparent pricing practices,” explains MFTransparency vice president Alexandra Fiorillo.

The publication of the data is a major step forward in the Indian microfinance industry’s ongoing efforts towards greater transparency and consumer protection. MFTransparency hopes the report, Transparent Pricing Initiative in India, and the ensuing discussions will serve as a catalyst for further developments in responsible microfinance worldwide. MFTransparency was established to promote the welfare of poor micro-entrepreneurs, and to promote the integrity of microfinance as a poverty alleviation practice. Since MFTransparency’s launch in July 2008, over 690 industry leaders, including MFIs have signed the endorser statement. Oikocredit was among the first signatories.
