Launch of the Transparent Pricing Initiative in West Africa

Published on July 6, 2010

In July 2010, MFTransparency launched the Transparent Pricing Initiative in West Africa to promote pricing transparency and consumer protection throughout the region. This Initiative is funded by the Luxembourg Development Cooperation.

The Initiative was launched with two workshops, one in Dakar Senegal, and one in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on July 6 and July 9. These marked the beginning of MFTransparency’s work in eight francophone west-African countries associated with the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) – Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Guinea Bissau, Mali and Niger.

MFTransparency focuses on training and education of the broad range of stakeholders to create an environment in which transparency leads to a strengthening of the local microfinance industry. MFTransparency’s launch workshops included training on pricing transparency and presentations covering the need for transparent pricing in microfinance.
