UNCITRAL Colloquium 2013-01In January 2013 MFTransparency CEO Chuck Waterfield presented to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) at their Second International Microfinance Colloquium, held in Vienna.

The 2013 Colloquium brought together experts from government, private sector, academia and the non-profit sector to discuss topics relating to simplified business incorporation and registration; enhanced access to credit for micro-businesses and small and medium-sized enterprises; dispute resolution applicable to microfinance transactions; mobile payments; and winding up processes.

MFTransparency was invited to provide key background material on the inner workings of the microfinance industry, presenting comparisons and contrasts with the formal financial markets, to enable the colloquium participants to better understand how current policies and regulations could be adapted to better address issues in the microfinance industry.  Chuck Waterfield’s presentation below, entitled “Transparent Pricing and the Microloan Price Curve”, explains the concepts around pricing in microfinance, the existence of a price curve and the impact and implications of price-caps.
