Need for More Pricing Transparency
Oikocredit USA, the affiliate of Oikocredit – the worldwide financial cooperative that promotes global justice by empowering disadvantaged people with credit – organized its first national summit from September 5-6, 2013, in Washington, DC under the title “Oikocredit USA Summit 2013: Investing in People, Empowering Communities”.
At the summit, Oikocredit USA celebrated the impact that investors’ capital have made in communities around the world. Over the course of two-days, participants had the opportunity to learn, through panel discussions and breakout sessions, about the latest trends in socially responsible investing; faith and money; and Oikocredit’s social and financial performance and achievements in West Africa and South America.
On the second day of the Summit, MFTransparency’s Chuck Waterfield was one of the panelists in a session titled “Oikocredit Advocating in the Sector”. This session, which was moderated by Leah Gage, Oikocredit USA Business Development Coordinator, discussed how Oikocredit, as a cooperative, collaborates with stakeholders to expand the effectiveness of its work and to meet the challenges posed by economic instability and poverty. As one of the organizations with which Oikocredit collaborates in the micofinance industry, Chuck talked about the the need for more pricing transparency in the microfinance industry and MFTransparency’s efforts in this area.
