The Country Survey for Tanzania provides an overview of the microfinance industry in Tanzania. Outlining the national socio-economic, political and historic factors impacting the microfinance market, the Country Survey forms a valuable backdrop against which to examine Tanzania’s transparent pricing data.

The microfinance industry in Tanzania is relatively young and limited in scale. It faces several important challenges in its development. These include the endeavors to become financially sustainable, the development of suitable products, and the various capacity building and technical assistance needs.  Tanzania is beginning to take steps to create a regulatory environment that makes it easier to voluntarily register a business and formalize business activities, hoping to clear some of the impediments caused by unclear regulation and discretionary enforcement.

The Country Survey provides context for this, looking at:

  • Political Overview
  • Macroeconomic Overview
  • Traditional Financial Sector
  • Financial Inclusion
  • Microfinance Institutions
  • Microfinance Regulation
  • The Cost of Borrowing
  • Consumer Protection
  • Challenges for the sector
